Now we're fishing with bait! (or are we?)


We've been plugging away at our little pearl here, and every bit we finish and polish gets us more and more excited to share our project with the world. This past week has brought us into implementation of the fish spawning mechanic, the shop interface, some beautiful parallax scrolling, and much more.

THE GAME EXPO IS ALMOST HERE

The Florida Polytechnic University Game Expo will be Saturday, December 7th, 2024! It will start at 10 am (I believe) and end at 3 pm, so if you live in the area of Central Florida (specifically Lakeland!), you are welcome to come by! We'll have food trucks and live music, as well as plenty of other awesome games to play from our fellow teammates!

If you can't make it in person, the game will be released here on itch the same day! We'll be in competition with our classmates so please rate our game and spread the word if you try it!

We each have a bit to share about our contributions, so check it out!

I FEAR FISH's development has been going great! Iv'e been busy working on the UI and day/night cycle. The UI is looking really nice and I think the mechanics are pretty unique so I hope you take the chance to enjoy it when it comes out!

Working on getting the graphics up to par and having a great time! I had a lot of fun figuring the PSX effects for the nighttime section and the art direction of its sprites, but the daytime remains my nemesis. The camera system fights me day by day but I will leave victorious.

I've been slaving in the mines of getting our fish spawner to... y'know, spawn fish. For when you catch them (as well as for when you fight them). I think I have the Unity error code about not referring to an instance of an object etched into the back of my eyes, but it's all for a good cause. (if you don't know what that means, a good comparison is trying to draw on the idea of a paper instead of an actual paper.) Our spawner is designed in such a way to account for which pond you're fishing at, how well you did at the fishing minigame, and (theoretically) what bait you have equipped to catch certain kinds of fish. While we haven't gotten around to implementing bait at the moment, the hooks are there for it, so once other features are more solid, we can go back and add it in.
